Some Important Points Concerning Conversion

·By running the Convert Selected command, Incite immediately begins converting the file (or first file in a multitask operation). The Converter window does not need to be open (neither will it automatically open when you run the command). If the window was closed when you began the operation, you can open it at anytime.

·When the Converter window is open, you can still interact with other windows of Incite Media Assistant's interface. As files are being converted you can continue working with Incite Media Assistant (log material, edit a storyboard, etc.). You can even change folders and select more media files for conversion by adding them to your current task list.

·For AVI and RM formats, it is not necessary to open the Converter window to create initial conversion settings as Incite Media Assistant provides a special default template for this purpose (conv_avi.mcc and conv_rv.rvt). This default template is updated to include the last used settings you were working with before closing Incite Media Assistant. For more, see 3.9 Conversion Templates (.mcc and .rvt files).

·If you do not specify a destination folder for the converted media files and a prefix and/or suffix, the new files will be created in the same folder as the original file using a logical, generic suffix. For example, if the original file name is XXX.avi, the converted file will be called XXX_1.avi. You can, however, activate the Do not use automatic naming option which lets you create a name and location manually for each file in the task list. For more see 3.8 The Converter window: The Files/Folders Tab.

·Converting media files and making movies, although extremely similar, are two different functions. Generally you will use the Convert Selected command to convert either a single media file or batch convert a group of media files. Make Movie takes a single media file or several media files placed on the storyboard as storyclips and converts them into a single media file. Converting works on the entire media file, while with Make Movie you can trim the media file on the storyboard and convert the selected material only. Making Movies from an Incite Media Assistant storyboard is discussed under 4.4 Exporting IMLs, Creating .TXT Files or Making Movies.

·The AVI Converter, QT Converter, RM Converter, Make AVI Movie and Make QT Movie windows are completely independent from each other. This means you can apply different parameter settings in each window and have them operating simultaneously. For example you could be converting one file folder into Indeo, another folder into Cinepak while making an AVI and/or QuickTime movie of a storyboard. The Utilities Status bar at the bottom of the Incite Media Assistant interface lets you monitor these separate utilities when they are closed or hidden from view. There is no Make Movie RM command. For more about making movies see 4.4 Exporting IMLs, Creating .TXT Files or Making Movies.

·RM conversion has unique features and limitations that are considered in more detail in section 3.10 Real Media (RM) Converter.

·When Importing and converting an IML file, the entire media file is used for conversion (and not the edited storyclip as it appears on an Incite or Incite Media Assistant storyboard).

·Regarding TCI files: After conversion, Incite Media Assistant will copy any existing TCI files (Time Code Information) linked to the originally selected media files. If a media file is being converted to the same directory, the TCI file (like the converted media file) will need to have an added suffix to prevent overwriting the original files. If no prefix or suffix was assigned in the Files/Folders tab, then Incite Media Assistant will generate a logical alias for the files. For example, if the original media file is named MyClip.avi, the converted media file will be called MyClip_1.avi and the TCI file MyClip_1.tci".
