6.5 Managing Your Incite Media

When capturing with the Incite editing software on Matrox DigiSuite hardware, you essentially create up to five linked tracks of media: 1 video track and up to 4 audio tracks. Each one of these tracks is registered as a separate media file. Along with these files, a TCI file is generated to manage all timecode information related to the linked files.

This means that for any given video/audio clip used in Incite there can be up to 6 media files to manage. When working within the Incite interface, the relationship between these files is made transparent and user-friendly. But outside of Incite, managing these 6 media file may be cumbersome.

Incite Media Assistant lets you work with these 6 media files as if they were 1 file. That is, whenever you move, delete or copy one of the files, all related files are affected. So, using the explorer-like browser in the Catalog list area, you can organize your media folders quickly.

For example, if you want to delete the following video media file, all of the related files (shown in the Related Files column to the right of the picon monitor) will be deleted as well. Using Windows alone, you would have to locate each of these files individually.

Similarly you could move the video media file to another folder (using Cut and Paste), or copy it to another folder, and all related files would be moved or copied as well.

When you convert a selected video media file, all external audio files (up to the maximum of 4 mono for MJPEG or 2 Stereo or DTV) will be included in the conversion as long as the proper audio conversion option is selected. These options can be selected in the Audio tab of the AVI or QT Converter window. Likewise when making movies from an Incite Media Assistant storyboard, external audio files will be included in the movie depending on the currently selected audio option in the Audio tab of the Make AVI Movie or Make QT Movie window. For more about these options, see 3.4 The Converter Window: Audio Format and Audio Parameters (AVI & QT Only).

Tips & Notes

·The TCI file will not be deleted if the Delete TCI Files option (found on the Catalog Display Preferences window) is de-activated. This option acts as a protection device for your TCI files. Saving TCI files may be useful for recapturing the media file at a later date. For more, see Catalog Display Preferences.
