6.6 Converting Incite Media

Perhaps one of Incite Media Assistant's most powerful features is its ability to convert media files into any video/audio file format (especially popular PC formats like Indeo and Cinepak). Using Incite Media Assistant's conversion and Make Movie tools, you can change the frame size, frame rate and other parameters so that the Incite media files can be used in other types of applications (on CD-ROMS, archiving, Internet applications, etc.).

DigiSuite and DTV Formats

In addition, as Incite's editing software can be run on Matrox DigiSuite, DigiSuite LE and DigiSuite DTV, Incite Media Assistant gives an editor the possibility of converting material to and from any of the formats used by these different hardware boardsets: MJPEG, MJPEG Lossless, DV and MPEG2.

To convert media files into these formats you will use the same tools described in Ch.3 Converting File Formats. For example, lets demonstrate how DV material could be converted into Lossless MJPEG.

1.Open the Video tab in the AVI Converter window.

2.Press the Select Video Format button.

3.Select Matrox MJPEG as the compressor using the Compressor menu.

4.Press the Configure button and select DigiSuite from the Use Video Quality Range menu.

5.Moving the Frame Size toggle, you can select the frame size. In this case, move the toggle all the way to the right (the numbers should be replaced with "------", indicating it is lossless quality).

6.The Equivalent Data Rate (Quality) field tells you the equivalent data rate in MB per second for both PAL and NTSC for the selected frame size.

7. Once selected, close the Configure window and the Video Format window.

8. Next, open the Audio tab in the AVI Converter window.

9. Select Convert External Audio to MONO WAV Files. This will convert the "external" DTV audio files (two linked Stereo files: A1 and A3) into 4 mono audio files (A1, A2, A3, A4) for DigiSuite.

10. Now that you have establish the video and audio parameters, select the DV media files you wish to convert. Right click on one of the selected files and run the Convert Selected AVI command. The files will be added to the task list and conversion will begin for the first file.

Likewise you could convert files from MJPEG into DV and MPEG2 formats.

Tips & Notes

·To convert from MJPEG to DTV you would need to select the Convert External Audio to STEREO WAV Files audio option. This option will convert 1 AVI file with four linked mono files (A1, A2, A3, A4) into 1 AVI and 2 Stereo audio files (A1 and A3) for DTV.
