Viewing your Media Files in the Preview/Logger Area

In chapter four we will discuss how Incite Media Assistant can be used to log video media files for insertion into the Storyboard window's timeline as a storyclip. The Catalog Preview/Logger is one area of Incite Media Assistant in which you can perform this task. For the moment, however, we would just like to point out how the Preview/Logger area can be used to preview your video, graphic and, in special circumstances, audio media files.

To load a media file into the Preview/Logger, simply double-click on its picon monitor in the Catalog List. You can also drag and drop the media file from the Catalog List directly into the Preview/Logger area. Once loaded, you can playback the material, choose In and Out points and insert the media file as a storyclip into your storyboard. You can also create or edit the RTF file connected to the media file, inserting comments or timecode entries. Timecode entries in the RTF field have a unique, "hyper-textual" capability. Double clicking on a particular timecode text, the media file cues to the specific point (for more see The RTF Field and Text Format Toolbar below).

As you can listen to audio files directly within the Catalog List and audio files cannot be inserted (as a storyclip) into the storyboard, audio media files cannot be previewed in the Preview/Logger. You can, however, listen to one channel of audio when previewing/logging a video media file in the Preview/Logger if the media file was captured with 1 or more audio channels. In this case, the audio file is considered "external" and you must use the External Wave Files window to choose which track you wish to listen to during playback (see Playing External Wave Files in 2.4 Working with Video, Audio and Graphic Media Files above).

Graphic files can be loaded directly into the Preview/Logger area but for previewing only. There are no logging tools and no possibility of inserting a graphic media file into the storyboard. You can, however, create an RTF file for the graphic image.

Tips & Notes

·A complete description of the Preview/Logger logging tools can be found under 4.2 Logging and Creating Storyclips in the Catalog Window.

·If you are not interested in logging material, the Hide Log Buttons option under the Change View drop-down menu will hide the logging tools, giving you more preview room or space for working in the RTF field. To hide the RTF field, move the splitter or use the Move Splitter button. This will provide a larger viewing area for your media file.
