Making Movies

Creating the Movie

To make either an AVI or QuickTime format movie, activate the Save Menu and select either Make AVI Movie or Make QT Movie (QuickTime). Incite Media Assistant will use the current settings found in the Video and Audio tabs of the Make AVI Movie or Make QT Movie windows. After selecting the Make Movie command, a Save dialog box will appear in which you can enter the name and select a directory for the file.

Setting Movie Parameters

To set movie parameters, select Tools from Incite Media Assistant's main toolbar and choose Make AVI Movie or Make QT Movie. These commands will launch the appropriate Make Movie window. The Make Movie window is similar to the Converter window discussed in chapter 3 (with the notable difference that there is no Files/Folder tab option).

To set video and audio parameters, you will use the Video and Audio tabs. These two tabs let you select format, frame rate, data rate, frame size, etc. The Make Movie window also provides a Task List, Details regarding the success of the procedure, as well as the general progress of the current movie being made (under the tab option Main).

As all five of these tab options have already been discussed in greater detail in chapter 3, we refer you to this chapter. However, bear in mind that Make Movie and converting media are entirely separate and independent procedures.

Similarities and Differences between Make Movie and Converting Media

Conversion is used to change one media file or a batch of media files into a new file format. A new media file is made for each media file selected and converted. Make Movie is primarily used to create a single AVI or QuickTime file from a storyboard (which may contain several clips). Whereas Incite Media Assistant's conversion tools work on the entire media file, Make Movie allows you to work from an edited In point to an edited Out point. This means you can trim a media file on the storyboard and make a movie of the trimmed file (reducing conversion time and getting exactly the material you wish to use).

Tips & Notes

·The Make AVI Movie, Make QT Movie, AVI Converter, QT Converter and RM Converter can all be working simultaneously as each window is, in effect, a separate set of tools. For example you could be converting one file folder into Indeo, while making an AVI and/or QuickTime movie of a storyboard.

·There is no Make Movie RM utility. If you wish to make an RM file from a sequence, first create an AVI file then convert the AVI to RM using the RM Converter.

·Important: If you are working with External Wave files and wish to include these files in the movie, make sure the proper audio option is selected under the Audio tab of the Make AVI Movie or Make QT Movie window. For a description of these options, see 3.4 The Converter Window: Audio Format and Audio Parameters (AVI & QT Only).
