Video Codec Selection

Today, there exists a wide variety of codecs (compression/decompression formats) for editing, archiving, broadcasting, or distributing your video material and projects. In order to select a codec it must first be available to the system you are working on. Certain codecs come with QuickTime or Video for Windows, others are software plug-ins or depend upon the hardware (video card) you are working with. Incite Media Assistant will automatically detect the codecs you have available and place them in the proper selection menu.

To select a video codec, press the Select Video Format button. This will open the Compression Settings window (note that this window will differ for AVI or QuickTime selection). In general, Incite Media Assistant will use optimized (or the most commonly used) default settings for the selected codec. Such settings as the occurrence of keyframes, the quality or compression factor, data rates, and color depth can be altered. Some AVI codecs allow you additional control over a codec's configuration by pressing the Configure button.

Tips & Notes

·Both the AVI and QT menus may vary depending on which codecs you currently have installed on your system.

·Setting options for a selected compressor is dependent on the vendors specification. That is, the AVI or QuickTime Converter has no control over a compressor's configuration other than those parameters provided by the vendor.
