Importing IML files

Incite is capable of importing IML files and transforming these files into 1 layer of video and up to 4 layers of linked audio, simultaneously creating the Master Clips and clips necessary for Incite's project structure. IML files are streamlined to match Incite editing concepts so importation is extremely effective and useful in a multi-station environment.

In Incite Media Assistant, when working with Incite media files, you are essentially viewing what we call "Proxy AVI" files. That is, converted versions of bigger, higher-quality files. The proxy AVI files are "virtual", in that they are running on the software codec alone. You will use these proxy AVI files for the creation of your storyboard sequence. As the actual link between the original AVI and the proxy AVI is the timecode file (both AVI files share a single TCI file), logging code can be generated from storyclips on the storyboard. This logging code is then used for the importation of the sequence as an IML file into Incite. Once imported into Incite, clips are created in a clip collection and the storyclips are placed on the storyboard. These clips will source the original higher-quality media files automatically, so there is no need for recapturing.

There are basically two methods for importing an IML file into an Incite storyboard: using the Drag icon (when both Incite and Incite Media Assistant are running on the same station) or using the Import/Incite Media Assistant command found on the right-click menu of Incite's storyboard layer controls:

·Importing Storyboards Using the Drag Icon
·Importing an IML file into an Incite storyboard layer

For more about creating IML files, see Exporting IMLs.

Tips & Notes

·Storyclips using formats or other parameter settings that are not suitable for Incite will appear off-line. For example, storyclips using a frame size less than the standard PAL or NTSC frame size.

·When an IML file is imported into an Incite project, Incite will create path directory links to any new media that needs to be created as new Master Clips. If you are working over a network, make sure the Incite system has direct access to the media files you are importing via the IML file.
